MP slams DJ's gay jibe

THE BBC should train Radio One DJ Chris Moyles in acceptable behaviour on the air after he used the word "gay" as an insult, according to an MP.

Lorely Burt (Lib Dem, Solihull) said the presenter could encourage bullying in school playgrounds.

She is the second local politician to attack Moyles, after West Midland MEP Michael Cashman (Lab) described his language as "unacceptable".

The BBC controversially cleared Moyles of any wrongdoing after he described a mobile phone ringtone as "gay", to mean it was no good.

The broadcaster said the word had commonly been used to mean "rubbish" on top of its other meanings, and the DJ was not referring to homosexuals.

But critics have refused to accept the decision.

Ms Burt has sponsored a Commons motion, signed by four colleagues, which expresses "concern" about the ruling.
