Plan to put the brakes on boy racers

A DETERMINED bid to put the brakes on boy racers tearing around a supermarket car park making neighbours' lives hell is gathering pace in Tamworth.

Families in Wilnecote thought their nightmare was over when boy racers moved off the Co-op superstore car park, in Ninian Way, after months of plaguing homeowners.

But the gangs have returned to haunt residents with their dangerous late night antics which are depriving them of sleep and making their lives a misery.

Councillors and families are now joining forces to compile a dossier of evidence of the gang's activities in an effort to help police permanently curb their anti-social behaviour.

They are calling on anyone else affected by the boy racers' antics to follow suit and bolster their campaign.

Coun Lee Bates said: "It was thought the late night car park racers had moved from the site, however the problem has reared its head again and residents are trying to taking positive action to help solve it.

"This car rambling is haunting residents by causing unacceptable levels of anti-social behaviour and noise pollution.

"We are determined to stop this behaviour which is clearly upsetting a lot of people.

"I will be working with the Co-op and police to find a permanent solution to stop these boy racers accessing the site."

Coun Bates is joining forces with fellow Wilnecote councillors Brian Beale and Mary Oates to tackle the problem.

Log books are being issued to families to detail the disturbances.

Tamworth Police are also encouraging residents to call the police when disturbances happen in order to get the details officially logged too.
