School evacuated after arson blaze

POLICE inquiries have been launched after an arson blaze which forced the evacuation of hundreds of pupils and staff at a Midland school.

The fire hit a first-floor storeroom at Dartmouth High School's Kennedy building in Wilderness Lane, Great Barr, just before noon yesterday.

Classes were halted and the school evacuated.

Firefighters from West Bromwich and Wednesbury spent more than an hour dealing with the outbreak, which caused only minimal damage.

Fire experts and detectives were called in to investigate.

The outbreak came three years after the science block at Dartmouth High was wrecked in a fire accidentally started by decorators stripping off old paint which caused millions of pounds worth of damage.
