Rampaging bull sparks street terror

SHOPPERS scattered in terror as an escaped bull charged through a busy Birmingham street.

Armed police were called in to shoot the animal after it escaped from a lorry transporting livestock in Sparkbrook.

Traffic came to a standstill as the beast ran along Stratford Road and into Sparkbrook Park last weekend.

Nobody was hurt but the animal caused panic among shoppers and motorists.

Mohamed Tahir, who witnessed the incident, said: "The police arrived on the scene and after a little while so did the armed response.

"The bull, which I think might have been a calf rather than an adult bull, was shot at least five times. I'm not sure if it was killed or tranquilised."

A police spokesman said: "The order was given for the animal to be shot and it was destroyed."
