Jail for heroin dealer's friend

A JOBLESS Birmingham man has been jailed for five years after police found heroin with a street value of £25,000 in his linen basket at home.

Jamil Uddin, 54, of Sommerville Road, Small Heath, admited possessing the drug with intent to supply.

Justine Lattimer, prosecuting, told Birmingham Crown Court that officers who raided Uddin's home in January found two packages in the basket weighing a total of 449g and £10,000 around the house.

Miss Lattimer said Uddin was not at home, but later went to police to say the drugs were his.

Serena Palastrand, defending, said the heroin in fact belonged to a man from Pakistan who Uddin had known for many years.

Judge John Maxwell said he accepted Uddin was not a drugs dealer.
