Woman thief steals OAP's handbag

POLICE in Redditch are warning shoppers to be vigilant after a pensioner's bag was stolen from her supermarket trolley.

The woman, who is in her 80s, was shopping at Morrisons, off Warwick Highway when she was approached by a woman who started talking to her.

When the victim turned back to her trolley, her black handbag containing cash and bank cards had been taken.

PC Scott Gee, who is based in Redditch, said: "We want to make people aware that this incident has happened and to encourage them to be vigilant.

"Our advice to anyone visiting a supermarket or busy shopping centre is to hold on to their bag rather than leaving it in a trolley."

The woman who spoke to the victim was described as dark-skinned, in her 20s with dark hair and wearing a pink sleeveless top.

The incident happened at around 1.30pm on Tuesday, July 4.
