Pair face collision charges

A MAN and a youth were appearing in court today after a woman sustained serious injuries in collision with a car outside a Birmingham hotel

The 22-year-old woman from Smethwick was hurt in the car park of the Apollo Hotel, Hagley Road, Edgbaston, in the early hours of Sunday.

The victim, who has not been named, sustained multiple fractures in collision with a Renault Scenic and was in "serious" condition today in the critical care unit at Selly Oak Hospital.

Police sealed off the car park and combed the area for forensic clues after the incident.

The 44-year-old driver of the car and a 17-year-old passenger, both from West Bromwich, were arrested and charged by police shortly after the incident.

The man was appearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court charged with wounding, dangerous driving, and wanton and furious driving.

A 17-year-old youth was appearing before Birmingham Youth Court charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

Any witnesses have been urged to call 0845 113 5000 and ask to speak to officers at Rose Road police station, Harborne.
