Tributes to Deputy Mayoress

BIRMINGHAM'S Deputy Lady Mayoress has died following a five-month battle with cancer.

Jean Hood, the wife of Sutton Coldfield councillor John Hood, died on Sunday aged 68.

The couple served as Birmingham's first citizens from May 2005 to May 2006 attending a wide range of official events, including welcoming Prince Charles to the city and officials trips to China and Jamaica.

Jean was born in 1938 in Birchmoor, Tamworth. She and John married in 1959 and have three sons and five grandchildren.

The current Lord Mayor, Coun Mike Sharpe said: "Jean was immensely proud to serve as Lady Mayoress and fulfilled the role with good humour, generosity and enthusiasm. She will be greatly missed."

The funeral service is at Holy Trinity Church, Sutton Coldfield on Thursday October 12.
