Mobile CCTV joins fight against crime

FIGHTING crime never stands still and Birmingham has introduced mobile CCTV cameras to its arsenal of crook-nabbing weapons.

The moveable cameras can be rapidly placed in crime hotspots at a moment's notice to catch offenders on the prowl.

Cheaper than fixed CCTV camera positions, bosses at the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership believe they are the way forward in tackling crime.

And the flexible friends mean they have now got the city covered.

The mobile cameras are now routinely used by the police and city council departments on operations and investigations to reduce crime and tackle anti-social behaviour.

Coun Jim Whorwood, cabinet member for local services and community safety, said: "It is evident people feel safer when there are cameras around.

"We will continue to expand on the areas covered and update our systems with the latest technology."
