Police launch crackdown on drug dealers

POLICE have staged a major operation to crack down on drug dealers and violent crime suspects in Staffordshire.

Teams of officers took part in dawn raids at around 50 addresses in Burton, Tamworth, Lichfield, and Uttoxeter, arresting more than 20 people suspected of committing violent crimes or dealing in class A drugs.

Superintendent David Forrest from Staffordshire Police said: "Today's arrests are the latest in a period of concerted action against violent offenders and people dealing in hard drugs.

"The operation will send out a clear message that people who commit violent acts or who put vulnerable members of society at risk through drug dealing, can expect to be arrested and brought before the courts."

Police said the operation also targeted people who had failed to turn up for court or defaulted on fines.
