Armed officers arrest teen on bus

A TEENAGER was arrested by armed police in a dramatic swoop on a packed commuter bus in Birmingham.

Passengers heading home on the number 29 service looked on in horror as police officers surrounded the lad who was suspected of carrying a firearm.

It is understood the lad had been tracked by police as he got onto the Travel West Midlands bus in Birmingham city centre at 4pm yesterday.

Armed police were called in and they were waiting for the bus when it stopped in Barnes Hill, en route to Northfield via Weoley Castle, at 4.05pm.

A police spokesman said a 15-year-old Weoley Castle youth was arrested on the bus and taken away by officers. The bus was allowed to continue its journey.

A firearm was recovered, police said. It was today being examined by experts.

Police said a 15-year-old was later charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He was released on police bail.
