Police crack eggs fraud

POLICE swooped on an egg factory and two rural homes in raids in Bromsgrove.

Two men, aged in their 40s, and a woman, also in her 40s, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud after allegedly breaching rules relating to marketing eggs as being free range.

Officers from West Mercia police and officials from the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) executed three search warrants at the premises, believed to be in the Warbage Lane area, near Dodford.

A police spokesman said the swoop, which happened at around 10am yesterday, was part of a pre-planned operation.

"All three people arrested were from the Bromsgrove area and are currently helping police with their inquiries at Kidderminster Police Station."
