Joanne's grand trek

TV newsreader Joanne Malin has urged Black Country families to join her on an American adventure in aid of a children's charity.

The Central News presenter is trekking across the Grand Canyon to raise cash for Acorn's Children's Hospice, which has a centre in Walsall.

Joanne said she hoped others would join her on the charity walk and raise cash to re-open beds not currently being used by the charity in Walsall and its other bases at Selly Oak, Birmingham, and Worcester.

"Unfortunately there are four beds closed at present in each of Acorns' three hospices and I hope me and my fellow trekkers will go some way to help improve Acorns' financial situation," she said.

"Trekking through the Grand Canyon will test my fitness and my senses as I expect to be taking in extreme temperatures and challenging terrain.

"It is my pleasure to be doing this to help raise funds and awareness for Acorns. I call on other adults out there of any age to join me and embark on this fantastic experience."

Time is running out for applications to join the 100km trek, which takes place between June 16 and 25 next year.

Anyone interested must sign up before the end of November by calling Acorns major events officer Laura Thompson on 01564 825 032. ..SUPL:
