VISITORS enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at Birmingham's museums.

Hundreds flocked to the open day held by the Museums Collections Centre in Nechells.

The 1.5 hectare site is packed floor to ceiling with the city's collections not currently on public display.

Because it is a working store there are no labels, showcases or displays. Instead visitors just mooched around not knowing what was around each corner.

Among the highlights are gargoyles from a Victorian pumping station, penny farthing bicycles, a retro Sinclair C5 and vintage Austin cars.

It was the second year the council had thrown open the doors of the collection.
