Police reject alcohol ban at park

POLICE have rejected calls to ban drinking at a park because they claimed crime was too low in the area.

Chief Insp Jim Baker, of West Mercia Police, said he did not agree with the

proposal for Brinton Park, Kidderminster, because only four offences in two appeared booze-related. "We are barely recording one offence per month in the park, with alcohol a negligible factor."

New figures revealed crime at the park had dropped by more than a third in the past year.

Chief Insp Baker said: "Given this latest encouraging news, the priority of police resources and the lack of any supporting police data, I feel the designation of the park as an alcohol-free zone would be disproportionate to the problem."
