Cadets jet pull is a soaraway success

A CHARITY challenge to pull a jet fighter proved a runaway success for a group of teenage cadets.

A team of 22 air cadets from the Kingstanding and Stockland Green squadron pulled the nine ton Jaguar aircraft more than 150 yards.

With a rope tied to each side of the recently decommissioned plane the young members of the 487 Squadron heaved it along the runway at RAF Cosford.

The Squadron is based at the Kingstanding TA Centre, Kingstanding Road, while a detached group holds its meetings at Stockland Green School, Slade Road.

They raised more than £1,000 for the Royal Air Force Association, which looks after veterans.

Spokesman Simon Jennings said: "It was a magnificent effort. They were going uphill for part of the pull so it was a huge challenge for them."

He said that the attempt is their entry in a fundraising competition for the RAF Association in which the UK's winning group will earn a trip to Cyprus with the legendary Red Arrows.
