Fleeing robbers run over pedestrian

A GANG of armed robbers ran over a pedestrian in Lichfield following a bungled raid on a jeweller's shop, police have said.

Three masked men armed with a handgun raided the shop on Bore Street, threatening staff and attempting to force open display cases.

Staff raised the alarm and the men escaped empty-handed, fleeing the scene in a Vauxhall Vectra which was later found abandoned.

The robbers collided with another vehicle and a pedestrian as they made their getaway. The pedestrian escaped with minor injuries.

Detective Sergeant Mitchell Thomas of Staffordshire Police CID said: "This was an extremely frightening occurrence for the staff at the shop.

"Thankfully no-one was injured and no property was taken."

Police urge anyone who saw the Vectra or its occupants in Bore St at about 2.30pm on Tuseday to contact Tamworth CID on 01785 234961.
