Sacked head is given his job back

THE head teacher of a Birmingham primary school has been reinstated just months after being sacked.

Alastair Sharp, head teacher of Brookvale Primary, in Erdington was dismissed by a panel of governors in May this year.

But, following an appeal hearing, he has now won back his job although he has yet to return to the post.

A statement released by Birmingham Education Authority confirmed today that Mr Sharp had been reinstated as head of Brookvale Primary following a recent appeal hearing at the school.

The statement added: "The local authority is working with the school to ensure stability and continued success for all pupils."

In the meantime, the deputy head Jonathan Smart, will continue in his role as acting head teacher.

A source close to the school claimed that Mr Sharp had been first suspended and then sacked over an accounting matter which was discovered following an audit on the school budget in December last year.

However, the Birmingham education spokesman declined to go into details about the original sacking.

Following his original dismissal, the local authority was informed of the decision by the governors at the school.

Mr Sharp then appealed and three governors, separate from the original disciplinary committee at the school, met and decided to reinstate him.

No date has been given for his return...SUPL:
