Rugby star dropping in to boost charity drive

Leon Lloyd

A RUGBY star is to visit a Staffordshire charity for a one-off event.

Leon Lloyd, the England, Barbarians and Leicester Tigers player, will visit children's charity BDF Newlife for a signing event as part of his testimonial year.

He will appear at the charity's superstore in Hemlock Way, Hawks Green, Cannock, on November 19 from 2.45pm to 4.45pm to sign memorabilia and pose with fans.

Leon is the top scorer for the Tigers in the history of the Heineken Cup and the Powergen Cup. In over 240 games for Leicester he has scored 82 tries.

His visit to BDF Newlife is one of a series of fundraising events for Leon and the charities he has chosen to support in his 11th season at Leicester.

Leon, who has won four Premiership medals and five England caps, said: "I'm looking forward to meeting everybody to see the good work they are doing."

There are also limited tickets available for a lunch with Leon at The Barns restaurant, in Cocksparrow Lane, near Cannock, earlier. Further details are available from Hayley Burlingham on 01543 462777.

BDF Newlife supports children with birth defects.
