Police probe train tragedy after woman dies

TRANSPORT police are investigating the death of a woman killed in a collision with a high speed train at a Midland railway station.

The woman, who has not been named, was aged 30 and came from Oxfordshire.

She died instantly after being struck by the Penzance to Glasgow Virgin Trains express shortly before 3pm last Tuesday, at Bromsgrove station.

The coroner has been informed of the tragedy and an inquest is due to be opened for identification purposes.

A spokesman for British Transport Police confirmed: "We were called to deal with a tragedy at Bromsgrove on Tuesday November 28. We responded to a report of a person being in collision with the Virgin Trains service from Penzance to Glasgow at Bromsgrove railway station.

"The body of a female was discovered in the area. The circumstances are not being treated as suspicious. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time."

British Transport Police have appealed for any witnesses to call 0800 405040.
