Police swoop after baby death mystery

POLICE swooped on a Birmingham street following the unexplained death of a baby early yesterday.

Officers cordoned off part of Hob Moor Road in Small Heath after being alerted over the incident.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said they had been contacted by staff at Heartlands Hospital yesterday morning.

She said: "They reported the death of a child of about six months of age from the Small Heath area as is routine for an unexplained infant death."

A post mortem will be held on Monday to establish the precise cause of death.

The spokeswoman added that there was nothing at this stage to suggest anything untoward had happened.
