Flood defences hold back the river
NEW flood protection measures were put to the test at the weekend as heavy rain swelled the river Severn.
Bewdley was closed to through traffic yesterday but the flood defences held firm.
However, people in Ironbridge were not so lucky as floodwater spilled over into cafes and shops.
Environment Agency specialists were keeping a close eye on gauges along the river in anticipation of more heavy rain.
