Harriet's splash of colour in Brum's Golden Mile

HUNDREDS of youngsters put their artistic skills to the test to enter Broad Street's Christmas colouring competition.

The contest was staged by the Broad Street Business Improvement District to encourage family visitors to the area in the lead-up to the hugely popular Canal Boat Light Parade.

The overall winner was six-year-old Harriet Crellin, from Feckenham, Worcestershire.

Steve Hewlett, of the BID, said: "We had a great response from visitors across the Midlands, even from as far as Bristol and Wales.

"The businesses have commented that they've had lots of enthusiastic young artists working on the picture of Santa on his canal boat."

Harriet and her family are now looking forward to enjoying her prize - a weekend enjoying Broad Street's attractions, including visits to Cineworld, the National Sea Life Centre, T Mobile Street Ice, and a performance of The Snowman at the Rep.

They will stay in a Livingbase apartment in Brindleyplace.
