Woman fights for life after being hit by car

A WOMAN was fighting for her life in a Midland hospital today after being struck by a car.

The woman, aged 28, is believed to have stepped off a bus and crossed the road in front of it before she was struck by the car.

She was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and was today in intensive care. Police issued an appeal for witnesses.

The accident happened in Rookery Street, Wednesfield, at about 6pm yesterday.

A grey Ford Focus was travelling towards Wednesfield town centre and overtaking the bus, which was at a stop, when the car was in collision with the woman.

A police spokesman said today: "The double decker bus was parked in or near the bus stop area. At this point a 28-year-old Asian female pedestrian crossed the road in front of the bus and collided with the front nearside of the Ford Focus.

"It is believed the pedestrian had just alighted from the bus.

"The woman, who is from Wednesfield, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to New Cross Hospital. Her injuries are considered life threatening.

"The 54-year-old driver of the car, also from Wednesfield, was not injured."

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers in the road policing unit at Low Hill police station on 0845 113 5000.
