Dumped puppies are lucky to be alive

The abandoned puppies

ABANDONED in freezing temperatures and left to die, these adorable puppies are today lucky to be alive.

The six cross bull terriers, no more than six weeks old, were discovered dumped in a shopping trolley in an alleyway outside a pub in Messenger Road, Smethwick, on Tuesday night.

The brindle and black coloured pups are now being cared for at the RSPCA's Birmingham Animal Centre, in Barnes Hill.

RSPCA Chief Inspector Tim Scott today appealed for information from anyone on who may have abandoned the dogs.

He said: "If you leave an animal unattended, tied to a tree or dumped in a trolley, absolutely anything could happen to it.

"If the animal survives the elements, then it has been lucky. "I would urge anyone who has an unwanted pet to contact us or any other animal welfare organisation.

"There is no shame in asking for help. Throughout the country animal charities take in pets regularly from people who can no longer care for their pet."

Ch Insp Scott added: "I would like to remind people contemplating dumping an animal that it is a criminal offence.

"Is it worth risking being fined, banned from keeping animals, or imprisoned because you did not seek help ?"

A woman was seen running away from the trolley at about 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Anyone with any information should contact the RSPCA National Cruelty and Advice Line on 0870 5555999.
