Fire extinguisher thrown at passing taxi

TWO women travelling in a taxi escaped with minor injuries after a fire extinguisher was thrown at the vehicle from a bridge in Birmingham city centre.

The extinguisher struck the car on Suffolk Street at about 3.10am on Thursday, inflicting a back injury on a 21-year-old woman and a minor head wound to a second female.

Two male passengers and the driver of the taxi were not injured but were taken to hospital suffering from shock.

A police spokesman said the fire extinguisher had since been recovered and officers are anxious to speak to anyone who saw up to six youths on the bridge at around the time of the incident.

Anyone with information should contact officers based at Steelhouse Lane on 0845 1135000.
