Jaguar axes 190 jobs in Birmingham

Jaguar sign

JAGUAR is to axe 190 jobs at its loss-making plant in Birmingham, it was revealed today.

The jobs will go by the end of May as part of a programme by the luxury car maker to adjust production levels in line with demand.

All the jobs will be shed as part of a voluntary redundancy programme, bringing the workforce at Castle Bromwich down to just over 2,200.

Jaguar's Don Hume said today: "This is to achieve year on year efficiency improvements in the business and to enable us to adjust production to more accurately reflect demand.

"We would class this as normal business. We will be confirming today that there is a voluntary package available."

Mr Hume did not go into the details of the severance packages on offer but it is understood to be at least £12,000.
