Lonely kangaroo is looking for love

Harold the kangaroo

A LONELY kangaroo is looking for hot-blooded "lovers" to be his Valentine - after failing to attract a single adopter.

Harold, the Western grey kangaroo, is one of just three luckless lonelies at the award-winning Dudley Zoo in search of a February 14 admirer.

Harold, along with kune-kune pig, Beryl, and Sheila the kookaburra, are the only animals in the zoo's 1,000-strong collection without adoption plaques outside their enclosures.

Staff are hoping their fortunes are about to change.

Marketing manager Julia Lockett said: "Harold is very cute, as are Beryl and Sheila, but people just don't seem to want to adopt them.

"We've been really busy this week taking online and phone adoptions for Valentine's Day from across the country, but yet again, these three didn't get a mention."

Lovers' favourites for Valentine's adoptions at the Castle Hill site include primates, red pandas, pink pigeons and big cats.

Julia added: "I've lost count of the number of people who've adopted a tiger or a monkey for their loved ones, but can't understand why Harold, Beryl and Sheila get left out."

Anyone wishing to adopt Harold, Beryl or Sheila or wanting further details on adoptions should visit www.dudleyzoo.org.uk or phone 01384 215313.
