Motorbike rider killed in crash

POLICE today appeal for witnesses after a 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash at a junction.

The victim was riding a white N-registered 1600cc Honda machine when it collided with a blue Ford Fusion car in Cannock Wood Street, near the junction with Valley Road in Cannock Wood, Cannock.

The victim, from Armitage, near Rugeley, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.10pm on Sunday.

The driver of the 05-registered Ford, a woman aged in her 60s from Cannock Wood, was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The road was closed for three hours while police examined the scene.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "The 22-year-old motorcyclist was travelling in the direction of Hazelslade when his machine came into contact with a Ford Fusion at or near the junction with Valley Road.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene. We would appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward."
