Burglar on run from open jail

Tony Bennett

A CONVICTED burglar from Birmingham was today on the run from the open prison where he was serving his sentence.

Tony Michael Bennett absconded from Sudbury open prison on Tuesday, little more than two years into a seven-year sentence for burglary offences.

Police in the West Midlands have now been put on alert to look out for Bennett in case he tries to return home.

Officers have visited the 36-year-old's friends and family to see if they have heard from him.

People have been put on alert not to approach him but call police immediately if they spot him.

Bennett was described as white, 5ft 10ins, of slim build with short, brown hair and brown eyes. He has a Birmingham accent and a number of tattoos including dots on his face.

He is serving seven years for burglary offences.

Bennett is the second person to go missing from the open prison in three days. Drugs offender David Alan Price absconded from the same Derbyshire prison on Sunday.
