Conductors call off rail strike

Central Trains

A STRIKE by Central Train conductors over work rosters, which was set to hit shoppers tomorrow has been called off.

Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union had been due to stage a 24-hour walkout, threatening travel chaos for thousands of passengers.

The union agreed to hold peace talks with conciliation service Acas, and called off the industrial action.

The move came after RMT officials said that Central Trains had lifted a ban on releasing its reps to take part in union activities, while conductors had ended a ban on overtime.

Bob Crow, the union's general secretary, said: "The company has agreed to resume talks through Acas, and we hope that a settlement can now be reached around the table.
