Evacuation after chemical spillage

WORKERS were evacuated from an industrial site after a chemical spillage at a Midlands factory.

Eight tonnes of hydrochloric acid leaked out when a pipe ruptured at the Grafham Carbons plant in Coseley.

A fire service spokesman said 60 workers were evacuated from the site after the incident at 8am on Friday, and one was taken to hospital as a precaution.

He said the spillage had been contained but warned those living or working nearby not to open doors or windows.

"There are concerns that it may give off irritant fumes," he added.

Specialist contractors will remove the spillage later on Friday.
