Firefighters prevent gas blast

FIREFIGHTERS averted a possible explosion from gas cylinders as they tackled a blaze which destroyed a portable building used as an office at a scrapyard.

Business records are believed to have been lost in the blaze, which broke out at O B Metals in Watery Lane Willenhall.

Ten firefighters spent about an hour dealing with the blaze, the cause of which is still being investigated.

A spokesman for Willenhall fire station said the crews arrived to find the building well alight and gas cylinders in danger of exploding.

"There were about six gas and oxygen cylinders in and around the cabin but we were able to cool them down and move them to safety," he said. "The building itself and everything that was inside was destroyed."
