More snow heading for the Midlands

FORECASTERS were today predicting more snow to hit the West Midlands as a cold spell gripped the country.

The gritters were out in force across the UK this morning as people awoke to find snow had settled on their cars.

And the Met Office forecast more wintry conditions until at least Thursday as Arctic winds, sleet and snow will hit the UK. A spokesman for the Met Office said temperatures were due to top 6C today, with gusts of up to 31mph.

Overnight, temperatures will plummet, struggling to around -2C tomorrow morning, he added.

"The wintry showers will mostly die out in the evening and it will stay cold and quite windy," he said.

The north and east Scotland are likely to be hit with more snow tomorrow, but the Midlands is expected to see fewer wintry showers, he added.

"In the Midlands tomorrow it will be mostly dry with spells of sunshine, though scattered sleet or snow showers may develop," he said.

On Wednesday, the strong winds are expected to die down, but temperatures will remain chilly with some snow possibly falling in the Midlands.

"Thursday could see more snow too, but by Friday things will start to pick up, temperatures will increase and it is likely to be quite sunny."
