Big queues to get the new Playstation

Matthew Bliss with Gamestation store manager Lee McLoughlin and his new Playstation3

GAME-playing fanatics queued up for hours last night as the much-awaited Playstation 3 went on sale at midnight.

Outside Birmingham city centre computer store, Gamestation, hundreds of fans lined up to get their hands on the machine that retails at £424.99.

Lucky shopper Matthew Bliss, from Yardley, was the first person to buy one as dozens watched on at the special midnight launch.

Natalie Cooper, sales manager at Gamestation on New Street, said: "At least 100 people turned up to queue for the console.

"The earliest we could sell the machine was one minute after midnight so we opened the doors at 10.30pm to accommodate as many fans as we could.

"Most of the stock was pre-ordered. We have had 300 already ordered but we have about 100 left for sale.

"Most of those went tonight as there was such a big demand for them."
