A musical message from youngsters

Sean Startin and fellow pupils in The Journey.

A CAST of hundreds of city schoolchildren took to the stage at Symphony Hall to perform a musical tackling issues including family breakdown and bullying.

Up to 500 youngsters from 13 schools across the north and east of the city were involved.

The show was organised by Birmingham charity the Malachi Trust which provides counselling for families in crisis.

Children from Stockland Green Secondary School led the cast, who ranged in age from seven to 16, in a modern-day version of The Prodigal Son called The Journey, yesterday.

Caroline Niblo, from the charity, said: "We wanted to give the children an opportunity to perform and to do something different, while getting the message across. The youngsters have absolutely loved every minute."

More than 1,000 tickets were sold for the show with proceeds going to the charity.
