Car overturns in road crash

FIVE people escaped serious injury after the car they were in flipped over in a dramatic road smash in the Midlands.

The car was travelling along Bromsgrove Highway, near Redditch, Worcestershire, when it hit a central reservation and rolled over.

Two ambulances and two rapid response cars were dispatched to the scene, close to the Foxlydiate pub following a flurry of 999 calls at 3.15pm on Sunday.

Three men and two women, all in their late teens or early 20s, were in the car at the time of the crash.

Paramedics said one of the women may have been thrown from the Renault Clio as it rolled over.

West Midlands Ambulance Service senior manager Doug Holloway said: "Her condition was not serious but she was complaining of neck pain.

"We took no chances and immobilised the girl concerned using a neck collar and spinal board."

One of the lads had a right shoulder injury and two others and a woman suffered minor injuries.

All were taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Mr Holloway added: "Considering the damage to the car, it is extremely lucky that we were not dealing with serious injuries."
