Boy, 12, dies in epilepsy tragedy

A SCHOOLBOY has been discovered dead in bed at his Black Country home after apparently suffering an epileptic fit.

An inquest was opened today on tragic 12-year-old Daniel Hoyland, who died suddenly at his home in South View Road, Sedgley.

A police spokesman said that a post mortem had failed to establish an exact cause of death.

Tests are being carried out on the youngster but the spokesman said that epilepsy was probably to blame.

"It appears he died after suffering a massive fit. An ambulance was called to the house on Saturday after Daniel's parents were unable to rouse him. But nothing could be done for the youngster and he was pronounced dead at the scene," the spokesman added.

The spokesman said that the death of Daniel, which happened on Saturday, would probably be put down to natural causes but an inquest had to be held because of his age.

Daniel, who attended a school for children with special needs, lived with his parents David and Rosemary Hoyland.

He had a sister who is a pupil at Alder Coppice primary school in Sedgley.

Black Country Coroner Robin Balmain opened and adjourned today's inquest hearing in West Bromwich.
