Christian bid to thwart BNP

BIRMINGHAM'S Christian leaders are urging people to use their vote to defeat BNP candidates in next week's elections.

The city's faith leaders today warned voters not to allow the far right British National Party to gain council seats in the city through apathy on May 3.

They have also warned people "do not be fooled" by the BNP are particularly annoyed at the party's claim to be "free, Christian and British".

Justin Thacker, of the Evangelical Alliance, called for people to vote against thge BNP.

He said: "I don't see how any Christian could ever support the BNP - its principles are entirely at odds with those of Jesus Christ.

"The BNP is a racist party, which doesn't seem to realise the contradiction of using St George's Day - which celebrates a Christian saint - to peddle its racist propaganda in Birmingham."
