Three charged over Vaisakhi stabbing

THREE males are due in court charged with attempted murder after a stabbing which marred a Birmingham festival to celebrate the Sikh new year.

West Midlands Police said two men and a youth had also been charged with violent disorder after an inquiry into disorder at Handsworth Park last Sunday.

A force spokesman said: "Police investigating the stabbing of a 44-year-old man in Handsworth Park have charged three men with attempted murder and violent disorder.

"They are a 31-year-old man from Walsall, a 17-year-old from Smethwick and a 28-year-old man from Birmingham."

All three will appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court, while a 66-year-old man from Coventry remains in custody.

Officers are still appealing for anyone who has any information about the incident to contact the Major Incident unit at Acocks Green on 0845 113 5000.
