100 kilos of drug seized

POLICE have recovered a haul of up to 100 kilos of cannabis destined for Birmingham in a dramatic swoop on a lorry.

The consignment of drugs was found concealed inside a delivery of machinery heading for the city.

Detectives received intelligence that the drugs were being delivered to an address and swooped to intercept the truck as it drove through the south of England.

As police dismantled the machinery they found the cannabis haul packed inside a false bottom of the cargo.

It is estimated to weigh between 60 and 100 kilos and be worth up to £500,000 on the streets.

Det Chief Insp Glynn Timmins said: "When we opened up the machinery, the haul was contained in the machine parts.

"They had gone to quite a concerted effort to conceal the drugs. It would have been virtually impossible for normal checks to have revealed the drugs."

Police believe the drug was a particularly high strength.

 Two people appeared before magistrates in Solihull on Saturday charged with drugs offences.
