Biker dies and woman hurt in bus stop smash

A BIKER was killed and a woman left fighting for life after a motorcycle ploughed into a bus stop today.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in Slade Road, Erdington.

The woman, who was waiting for a bus, was critically injured and was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital.

The accident happened after a van collided with the bike at 10am. It was not known whether the dead rider was a man or woman.

Traders said the area was quickly sealed off by police.

Slade Road-based newsagent Ramesh Ram said: "A huge accident has happened.

"Around 10 police cars were sent to the scene and the helicopter was also up examining the situation."

Mr Ram said the junction of Slade Road and Reservoir Road was an accident blackspot. "There are accidents there every few weeks," he said.
