Germaine sticks to art issues in Brum debate

Germaine Greer

AUTHOR and critic Germaine Greer is to take part in a university arts debate in Birmingham next month.

She will join other influential commentators in the British arts world for the New Generation Arts Festival's Big Debate, organised by UCE Birmingham.

The debate forms the centrepiece of the festival, which kicks off on June 14 and showcases more than 40 exhibits and performances, covering all creative disciplines of the arts.

The festival is one of Europe's largest showcases for graduate talent.

The debate, which will be chaired by the Times newspaper's chief cultural critic Richard Morrison, will explore how Britain's regional arts scene can face the challenge of attracting continued investment and interest.

As well as Ms Greer, the panel includes Arts Council chairman Sir Christopher Frayling, Birmingham Post arts critic Terry Grimley, and the director of The Sage Gateshead, Anthony Sargent.
