Tories were out to get me - independent

TORIES increased their grip on power at Bromsgrove but there was no love lost as an independent councillor bit the dust.

Nick Psirides said the Conservatives were determined to oust him in Norton ward, where Tory candidates Maddy Bunker and Michael Webb claimed victory in a close-run contest.

"I am very disappointed," Mr Psirides said. "I think the Conservatives were determined to get me out because they considered me to be a threat.

"They pulled out all the stops to get me out. They were canvassing right up until the last minute. I was an indepedent voice on the council and I spoke my mind."

The Conservatives dominated the results, increasing their standing on the 39-seat council from 24 to 26. Labour made no ground, remaining on six councillors, with the Liberal Democrats boasting just one representative.
