Web joke backfires on teens

TWO Midland teenagers have been given fixed penalty notices after posting a friend's details on a dating website as a practical joke.

West Mercia Police said the youths, aged 17 and 18, had been given the fixed penalties after contravening the 2003 Communications Act by placing a friend's details on the site.

Pc Wayne Griffin, of Bromsgrove police, said: "The joke backfired when the victim began receiving phone calls, some of them in the early hours of the morning, from people seeking to arrange meetings."
