Cadbury sells off more businesses

BIRMINGHAM confectionery giant Cadbury Schweppes has sold another batch of businesses as it remained on track to generate £250 million from sales by the end of the year.

The biggest deal involved the sale of operations in Australian jams, toppings and jellies, including the licence to use the Cottee's and Rose's brands, to H J Heinz for 70 million Australian dollars (£29m).

Cadbury also revealed it had completed the sale of Canadian-based Allan Candy, along with its Italian operations Cadbury Italia to Leaf Italia.

The group, which is best known in the UK for its Dairy Milk chocolate and Bassett's sweets brands, said it had now raised more than £200 million from its disposals programme, putting it on track to meet its target of raising around £250 million by the end of 2007.

The programme, announced in October 2005, has also included the sale of Cadbury's US-based Slush Puppie and Holland House Cooking Wines.
