OAP injured in street robbery

AN 86-year-old woman was dragged along the pavement as thieves stole her handbag.

The callous thieves are now being hunted by police after the elderly pensioner suffered facial injuries and needed hospital treatment following her ordeal yesterday.

The woman was walking along Low Street in Cheslyn Hay, Cannock, at 11.45am when a green Nissan Primera pulled up alongside her and the two occupants asked for directions.

The passenger then grabbed the woman's handbag and sped off, dragging her along the pavement. The woman was treated at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, for facial injuries and was left badly shaken.

The victim was unable to tell police what the bag contained and has so far been unable to give a description of the two offenders.

Police are keen to catch the callous pair before they strike again. Anyone with information should call police on 08453 302010.
