Sad day for city's HP Sauce factory

IT was a sad day for campaigners as bulldozers moved in to start the demolition of the city's famous HP Sauce factory.
Campaigner John Bull laid a wreath outside the city landmark, which has been part of the Birmingham skyline for more than 100 years.
Demolition workers started tearing down the building yesterday after the last bottle of HP Sauce rolled off the production line in March. Parent company Heinz is moving production to the Netherlands, with a loss of 120 jobs.
The demolition of the factory, in Tower Road, Aston, is expected to take 16 weeks.
Developers Chancerygate are planning to build a new business park on the site, which could create up to 200 jobs.
The company is expected to submit a planning application to chiefs at Birmingham City Council in the next few weeks.
