Teenager injured after air rifle accident

A TEENAGER needed hospital treatment after he was accidentally shot in the foot with an air gun.

Ambulance bosses are warning people to be careful with the guns after a pellet hit the youth in a toe in Summer Hill, Tipton.

"It is not clear exactly what happened, but the 18-year-old from Tipton was in a great deal of pain after the pellet became embedded in his left big toe," said a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"He was taken to Sandwell Hospital to have the pellet removed and should hopefully have no long-term damage. This incident does serve to reinforce the message that air rifles are not toys and can cause a remarkable amount of damage.

"It is absolutely vital that they are used in a responsible way so that no-one is injured."

The ambulance service was alerted to the accident at 5.40pm on Sunday.

A crew was on the scene within seven minutes was backed up by an incident support officer.
