Bank ram raid man is cleared

A MAN who spent nine months in prison after he was arrested following a £2 million bank ram raid in Tamworth, was cleared when a judge ruled there was insufficent evidence against him.

Larry Clack, aged 29, of Carey Street, Coventry, was freed after Judge Mark Eades upheld a submission made by Graeme Simpson that an allegation of conspiracy to burgle should not be allowed to go the jury.

Co-accused Mark Docherty, 31, of Milerton Road, Coventry, also denied conspiracy to burgle the Royal Bank of Scotland cash distribution office at Kestrel House, Silica Road, on the Amington Industrial Estate, Tamworth, on October 18 last year.

The prosecution said that £1.83 million was taken by burglars who used a skip lorry to ram their way into the building and put the money into a holdall. They escaped in a high-powered Audi car and on two motorycles.

The money has never been recovered.

Four others have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle, including Kenneth Bourne, 26, of Petitor Close, Terrance McGurk, 34, of Alton Close, Karl Powell, 25, of Winston Close, and Dean Lindon, 28, of Mawnan Close, all Coventry.
